What a great show. I totally agree with you about giving math and ELA teachers more time. Maybe schools could pair the two subjects together back to back in kids schedule and let it take 1.5 periods each. That way the two teachers do it 3 times a day and they would get used to switching over without a bell. And of course there classes would be right next door to each other too. In my school this would mean 22 extra minutes of instruction every day, or almost 2 hours extra a week. This would allow for more guided practice, reteaching or just expansion of their curriculum. If the kids got the basics down in reading, writing and math - it would make everyone else's job easier too. The Principal's Page Blog had something similar, but focused on elementary this week too.

Great show, keep up the good work.

Thanks for the Feedback Robert. It seems interesting to me that the Feds seem to throw so much money at STEM (Science, Technology, Education and Math) since Sputnik, but I often wonder if it'll take a literacy "Sputnik" to get the federal monies and priorities in line with what needs to happen in the classroom.

Thanks,

Jeff
